Shalom everyone,
There have not been too many comments on the posting about Israeli and American schools. What do you think ?
I had another question, with the events of the last few days what do you (Israelis and Americans) think about what is going on in Egypt ?
How will the change in the Egyptian government affect you or has it already had an effect on you and your families ? What do you think ?

Different systems

February 5th, 2011 by suzanneweinstein

So now that there have been posts about the different systems in Israel and America, which one do you think is better ? What are the good points and/or bad points of each system ?
Let’s see what you teens who are in the thick of things think ?

Israelity

February 5th, 2011 by Eyalu

So let’s sum up Israeli high school, yeah? really- really interesting subject.
The high school system is actually based on the british system because around a century ago the Brits governed over Israel which is why Israel embraces British things like, tea and biscuits? or uh- ladyfingers? I don’t actually know what British people like.

through grades 10-12 we have a series of tests called bagrut in which we are tested in all required subjects plus two subjects we choose( electives, sorta) I chose biotechnology and physics. Each subject receives a certain amount of points, in math and English we can choose from 3 to 5 points.

requirements: English, math, civics, literature, tongue(hebrew grammar), history and uh- bible studies

there, that’s it, rather annoying, I prefer the American system but hey, here we have…humus

thanks to Daniel for finding spelling mistakes in my last post, I appreciate it.

American High School.

February 4th, 2011 by Laurel S

So I was told to describe the American high school system. That’s a lot to explain so I’ll try to keep it short that way you aren’t bored.

The school most of the Americans go to is called Nicolet and it is grades 9-12. Nicolet is special because it has three different class levels (College Preparatory, Accelerated, and Honors/AP) where most schools only have two levels (College Prep and Honors/AP). You choose what levels you want depending on how much work you are willing to do.
For example, here is my schedule. (We have seven classes a day and have the same classes every day.)
1. Hebrew 5 – Accelerated
2. AP United States History
3. AP Chemistry
4. Honors English
5. AP Studio Art -Design
6. Honors Pre-Calculus
7. Engineering, College Prep

If you do well in AP classes, you can get college credit for the work you do in high school.

The SAT and ACT are also very important for high schoolers. They are tests that everyone has to take and colleges look at your scores. Students can take these tests as many times as they need until they get the scores they want.

That’s all I have to say for now. If anyone has any questions they can just ask… Hopefully that wasn’t too boring!

So um, I feel that I should get to know some of the Americans, I say “the” because I’m sure some of my fellow Israelis will read this, except Gal, who doesn’t like following instructions. You can decide which Gal.

uhh facebook: eyal urim, if you are facebook active,

and yeah, let’s start the conversation.

Super Bowl

Anyone of the American teens want to write a post about the Super Bowl and the Green Bay Packers ? Maybe you could explain why this town, and the entire state of Wisconsin, are going a little crazy right about now.

Hey My name is Sarah

I live in Milwaukee and I am so glad to start this program and get to know you all a little better. My favorite sports are basketball and football. I also really like acting and theater. Tell me about yourself. What sports do you like? Do you participate in any after school activities? What is your favorite subject in school?

Hope to read your responses
